MY MOOD BOARD

These are the colors and cuts I want to wear. Sort of a wardrobe compass to reference while shopping.

Putting this together (read part 1 here) helped me see that there are a few key foundational pieces that appear over and over in the outfits I like. Pieces I don’t have and am now on the hunt for:

1. A warm toned, hip length jacket - a ton of options sourced in Part 1
2. Light blue jeans - I only have black and dark blue ones that I like
3. White jeans
4. A pop of red

VERY LITTLE BLACK

There’s an absence of black clothing (several pairs of black shoes tho). Just a couple little hints of black, but mainly white, blue, butter yellow, and chestnut with pops of red. And a piece or two in very specific shades of green. I just noticed both the green pants Kate Moss is wearing and the runway shot with the green scarf are Prada. Prada does color better than anyone. Ok, so I guess I need a hint of Prada green in my closet :)

Over the past week, I collected options for these target pieces, along with some other things that I can imagine wearing weekly. Will I wear it weekly is a good litmus test for me to get real about having a wardrobe that functions day to day.

CLASSIC CUTS

I like classic straight leg, ankle grazing jeans that have a rise akin to a pair of vintage Levi’s - not too high, not too low. I don’t wear barrel, low slung, baggy, or wide leg jeans (or pants). Well, never say never, but there is a particular cut that I like that works on me, and I stick to it. The same goes for lots of things beyond jeans.

When I look at an outfit and think it could have been worn 50 years ago or 10 years ago or today and read as chic and classic, I want to wear it. Timeless-ness is a big thing for me. I feel the same way about interiors.

Ok, let’s peruse some classics.

EDIT 1

WHITE JEANS: one, two, three
BLUE JEANS: one, two
RED CASHMERE SWEATER: this is SO GOOD. The neck line. The luxuriously cut torso and sleeves. This particular, hard to find shade of red. Though it comes in a range of equally perfect shades. Their whole collection is well worth a perusal, it’s giving the Row meets…. minimal modern J Crew? You’ll see.
YELLOW SWEATER: beautifully cut. It drapes.
DENIM SHIRT: The color is vintage stonewashed indigo, and the photo I am using looks like the model took a smaller, more fitted size than what is shown at the link. I like it both ways. It looks a bit dressier in the smaller size.
SUEDE JACKET: checks every box on my list - texture, color, cut
FLATS: from COS
T-STRAP SANDALS: red and black in different price points. I’ve worn T-straps for years. I used to buy the Prada ones, but they have nearly doubled in price in the last 5 years and there are other good options.
RED STRAW TOTE: comes in a range of colors, love this shape.
